Toys For Tots

Housing On Merit partnered with San Diego Toys for Tots  this holiday season to distribute toys to qualifying children at Vista La Rosa. We had a total of 45 children receive toys this year. We also had the honor of hosting our local Police Department who were generous enough to assist us in distribution of toys.

Thanksgiving Food Drive 

A big thank you to the San Diego Food Bank for providing food bags to our families at Vista La Rosa for Thanksgiving. A total of 20 families received a bag filled with apples, granola bars, cans of chicken, milk, cereal, and tomatoes.

Poetry and Writing Workshop

Youth in our Teen Council had the chance to meet Gill Sotu. Gill is the Artist-in-Residence at The Jacob’s Center. Gill is a highly accomplished poet, author, musician, and playwright. Participants got to hear a few of Gill’s spoken word pieces and engaged in writing activities to inspire them to start writing their life stories. Each participant received a journal donated by 4Imprint’s One by One Program.

Medical Mobile Unit

The Medical Mobile Unit started its visits to Vista La Rosa in September 2016. The unit will be visiting the community once every two months. Residents can access the unit for services including: immunizations, flu shots, physicals, hemoglobin tests, and pregnancy tests.

Youth Employment Workshops

Vista La Rosa hosted a series of Youth Employment Workshops facilitated by Connect2Careers. Workshops included: building a resume,  learning about in-demand jobs, how to create an elevator pitch, and preparing for interviews.
